Local schoolgirl, Courtney Lane, has been crowned winner of the ‘create a cake’ competition run by the tea room at the Feather’s hotel.
Courtney, aged 8 from Ludlow, was one of five finalists who were chosen to bake their initial design creations to be judged by Group Executive Chef, Wayne Nell at the tea room for the all-important taste test.
Courtney’s stunning creation, Court in a Dream, was chosen as the winning cake which will now be featured on the tea room menu for other guests to try and Courtney herself won a personalized apron and a VIP afternoon tea for her and her family of up to six people in the tea room.
Wayne said: “We were really impressed with the quality of the initial create a cake designs but seeing the five finalists bring their vision to life and bake the cakes they did to such incredibly high standards was certainly impressive. The taste test was a tough job but someone had to do it!
“For me, the combination of texture, taste and how visually impressive Courtney’s cake was were all winning factors and she should be very proud of herself. Keep up the baking Courtney!”
Courtney is a budding Mary Berry and her Mum, Laura Lane said: “This was the perfect competition for Courtney and she is thrilled to have won. She spent a lot of time planning the design, choosing the colours, making it creative and I was impressed with the attention to detail she gave it too! To see her work so hard on the design and then literally create the cake she did at her age was a proud moment.”
The secret recipe for the Court in a Dream cake has been shared with Wayne and his brigade who look forward to re-creating the cake for sale in the tea room.
